Tourism as turned into an irreplaceable tool for developing countries with its contribution to the improvement of balance in exterior payments, employment and regional prosperity.
Especially for developing countries, the contribution of tourism is undeniable with its capability of attracting foreign currency which is among the essentials for a strengthening economy.
The progress of tourism in Turkey has started with the definition of regions tourist development by the Council of Ministers. The coastal ribbon including the Aegean and Mediterranean coasts have been announced as regions of tourist development.
Didim is a settlement on the south-western corner of the country of Aydin, with its coastline of 30 kilometers extending along the Aegean Sea shores. While its economy used to depend mostly on agriculture, stock breeding and fishing, times have changed dramatically.
Once dependent upon imports to sustain itself, the area now has developed the export-oriented model of 1980s and the arrival of foreign and domestic investments. A hefty portion of today’s economy depends on the sector of tourism.
Historical and natural beauties, well-known to everyone, present themselves as important factors in the progress of Didim. The Apollo temple, Didim’s most prominent historical structure, was built in the name of the god of light, prophecy, and music.
The temple had taken its place among the most important centers of prophecy in its own beauty of the coastline, with more than 30 bays, lends itself to Didim as another effective factor of attraction.
The most influential and respectable way of attracting various sizes of capitol movements onto Didim, is to ensure development in the sector of tourism with a regularly planned pattern of construction.
Let us take a look at the reason why big/small investors would/should prefer Didim as the place to put their capital into action, and in which area these investments would better accumulate.
Especially after the “law of Proprietorship for Foreigners” was put into effect, the Turkey property sector has gained high acceleration in Didim. But this seems hardly enough for the property and real estate market to hold its own high level.
The most important factor that investors should observe and follow would be the projects developed by the local council or the Ministry of Tourism and Culture.
In January 2004, seven coastal settlements including Didim were announced by the Minister of Tourism and culture as “Areas of Preservation and Development for Culture and Tourism”. This concept is in fact quite close to that of Tourism Centers which was actively used by the Ministry of Tourism after the 1960s.
The development experienced in resorts like Antalya, Belek, Kusadasi and other similar settlements, that were acknowledged thus after the 1960s, depending widely of the affect of this concept.
The reason for such a boost in the region markets is that this kind of status granted by the Ministry set in motion several projects regarding the region.
